General cleaning
Every day, vacuum the carpet.
Grubby edges
Edges of carpets can trap dirt and can be difficult to get to with some
vacuum cleaners. Clean these areas regularly by rubbing gently with a damp
cloth and a little detergent.
Professional cleaning
Have the carpets cleaned by a professional cleaning company every six
months to ensure all dust and grit is completely removed.
New carpets
New wool carpets should be brushed rather than vacuumed for the first few
weeks after fitting.
Furniture marks
Move furniture to slightly different positions to reduce damage due to the
weight of the furniture. Also place plastic "coasters"
(available from furniture and home improvement shops) under the feet
of furniture to spread the weight.
Stain removal
Use approriate stain remover for most stains and types of carpet. Check
suitability before use to avoid damaging carpet fibres or colouring.
Sunlight
Sunlight can cause carpets to fade. Close curtains or blinds when strong
sunlight is shining directly on to the carpet.
